What experts would say
Plain-language interpretation of current USGS data — not a direct expert quote or earthquake prediction.
This is a significant earthquake. The most useful impact indicators are measured or modeled shaking, official hazard products and reports from affected communities.
The earthquake is relatively deep, which can spread felt shaking over a wider area while changing how strongly the surface responds near the epicentral region.
USGS instrumental intensity is currently MMI 5.6, indicating strong or stronger modeled shaking in the affected area.
